01 Putting Starting Line and Speed Control Practice

1. Setting up the Putting Gates: Choose one of the three sizes based on your skill level or practice Putting Gates. Beginners are advised to use the larger 60mm Putting Gates for greater margin of error. As your skill improves, you can try using 55mm or 50mm Putting Gates to increase the difficulty.

2. According to the table above, place the Putting Gates at the distance corresponding to a 1-degree deviation in front of the ball, directly facing the ball and the hole, forming a straight line.

The best method is to use a laser sight to assist with alignment. In practice, it is difficult to ensure that the ball, Putting Gates, and hole or cup are in a straight line due to human factors.

3. Focus on the starting line: The key is to ensure that the ball passes through the Putting Gates cleanly without hitting the side of the Putting Gates. When putting, ensure that your shot trajectory is consistent with the target line. If the ball hits or knocks down the Putting Gates, it means your putt is off the target line and needs adjustment.

4. Use a combination of Putting Gates to control speed: To incorporate speed control into practice, you can set up two or three Putting Gates at different distances.

For example, placing two or three Putting Gates at distances corresponding to a 1-degree deviation in the table above can train you to ensure the ball passes through at the correct speed over longer distances, providing immediate feedback on starting line accuracy and putt speed.

5. Challenge yourself with different distances: Change the distance between the starting position and the Putting Gates to create a more dynamic practice environment. For shorter putts, use smaller wickets to improve your accuracy. For longer putts, start with larger wickets and focus on maintaining speed.

02. Breaking Putts and Speed Practice

When practicing curve putts on sloping greens, place one wicket at the starting point of the curve, allowing the ball to pass through the wicket and into the hole.

The placement of the wicket should be based on accurate reading of the green and accurate prediction of the putting line. If possible, use a green reading rack or verify this through multiple putts.

Also, you can place a larger wicket about 1 meter from the hole to test and practice putting speed.

You can also increase the difficulty by placing another wicket in the middle, allowing the ball to pass smoothly through all the wickets into the hole.
